Extra Credit: Why does it say it?

Post  Admin on Fri Sep 17, 2010 5:57 am

Look at Mark 8:22-26. What does this story teach? Look at
Mark 8:14-21 and 27-30. What change has taken place in the
disciples? How does the miracle in verses 22-26 help us
understand this change? Why is the miracle in two stages? It will help to look
at 8:31-34. Do the disciples see clearly who Jesus is? What was Mark‘s intent
in telling the story of the healing of the blind man?

The story of Jesus healing the blind man and warning him not to tell anyone teaches that Jesus knew He had a superior purpose. There was a specific time and place for everything to occur for every prophecy to take place. Jesus didn't want the blind man to go around bragging. He wanted to teach the disciples that healing comes from the power and gift of God and that the man that God chose to work through shouldn't be glorified for what God allowed.
The change that has taken place revolves around the faith of the disciples. They went from not understanding the words of Jesus and still doubting His spiritual abilities, despite Him feeding thousands with few loaves of bread and fish, to knowing He was the savior, the Christ, the Messiah, and the Son of God, whom could perform all works and do all things. The miracle of the blind man helps us understand this change, because the man went from seeing partially to seeing perfectly after Jesus touched his eyes once more.
The disciples do see clearly who Jesus is, yet their human imperfections can cloud their judgement and tempt them to worry about Jesus or not understand His fullest powers.
Mark told the story about the blind man to show that when we're first introduced to Jesus, we can see (spiritually) a little. However, the more we come into contact with Jesus and learn about His wonders, the more we see Him clearly and perfectly.

Mark 8:22-26 teaches that Jesus can do miraculous miracles and can fix anything, even the impossible; healing the blind man to be able to see.
Mark 8:14-21 and 27-30 first the disciples didn't understand who Jesus was, but later on Peter said Jesus was the "Christ"! The disciples were blind like the blind man because they couldn't even see Jesus when he made it obvious.
I think the disciples see Jesus because Jesus chose them as his disciples.
Mark intention of telling the story of the healing the blind man because they were blind and Jesus healed them.
